nVidia GTX 1080

Unread postby Phreaky » Tue Jul 12, 2016 7:18 pm

Hi all,

I've recently been looking into the GTX 1080 as i want a beast of a card not just for gaming but for capturing and streaming.

Has anybody got a 1080 and if so does it live up to all the hype and expectations?

Thanks,

Phreaky

I don't have this graphics card. I do have two 970s which are beasts in their own right.

I've learnt from my friends here that sometimes not all the latest stuff is necessarily the best to get, at least not till it's been out a while and tested/reviewed. Although that doesn't stop you wanting it :p

I see your point but I'm overly drawn to it as I'm working to build a new rig and wanted to get the latest so that it would last me :D

Was looking at the new AMD cards but I am not too sure about them to be honest.

I was soo hyped for the 1080 and the 1070 since nvidia said after the founders edition we would be looking at cards costing £450ish. Well that didnt happen at all, so for now I dont think they are worth the amount being asked for them. Grab a 980ti instead, ~£200 cheaper or an AMD card.

I am waiting for the 1080ti to come out hopefully later this year and see what price they are and maybe see a price drop on plain 1080.

I see your point behind cost but I have 2 AMDs but they're giving me jip performance wise.

The other reason why I was thinking the 1080 (more the asus model which is more powerful) is due to the enhanced AR capabilities and the additional features.

But what I have heard that DirectX 12 is going to allow dual card rendering so you have have an AMD and an nVidia card side by side which ultimately would mean the features and high-end abilities of nVidia combined with the raw power of an AMD card so might get a 1080 as well for those benefits. :-D

Slush has at least one I think - try and catch him on TS3 sometime in the MMO channel. He's very happy with it!

I'd love some but alas, cannot afford.

Any chance you have an Intel i5 or higher? Streaming/recording can be done with zero performance impact using OBS and Intel Quick Sync.
